On the day of the Unconference, attendees will be able to participate in four breakout sessions (45 minutes each) and a Guerrilla Storytime. Breakout session topics will be determined in the fashion outlined below.
When you register for the Midwest Youth Services Unconference, you’ll be asked for session topics you would like to see at the Unconference 2015. It can be anything you would like to discuss-storytime music, keeping up with new titles, maker spaces, how to do art in toddler time-anything! You can also indicate any session topics for which you’d feel comfortable facilitating discussion. Volunteering to lead a session topic is entirely optional.
In the days leading up to the unconference, the organizers will comb through the and make a list of the most-requested session topics. Then, on the day of the unconference, one of the first orders of business will be for attendees to vote on the day’s sessions. You’ll know the time slots for breakout sessions in advance of the unconference, but session topics won’t be set until attendees have spoken.
The unconference method is meant to allow all attendees to engage in professional development that is immediately relevant to the work they do. It’s a conference by youth services staff, for youth services staff. If you’d like to read more about unconferences and preparing to attend one, please visit unConference.net.
